New Mexico has long been home to world-class science and engineering. With national laboratories, research universities, and a growing aerospace and defense presence, the foundation for advanced technology is already here.

The next step is scaling private-sector innovation — and building the workforce to support it.

At Hoonify Technologies Inc., we believe New Mexico can be a leader in high-performance computing (HPC) and AI. That belief is why, since 2025, we have been proud to partner with STEM Boomerang New Mexico to help shape the state’s emerging HPC talent pipeline.

Strengthening the HPC Workforce in New Mexico

As industries increasingly rely on AI, simulation, modeling, and large-scale data processing, demand for HPC skills continues to grow. Aerospace, defense, energy, advanced manufacturing, and research organizations all depend on scalable computing infrastructure — and the technical expertise to operate it.

Nowhere is that demand more visible than in AI infrastructure. The rapid growth of large-scale AI models from companies like Anthropic and OpenAI has driven massive investment in GPU clusters, neocloud providers, and high-throughput compute networks. Supporting that infrastructure — deploying it, managing it, optimizing it — requires exactly the kind of HPC expertise this program is designed to develop. The people who know how to operate these systems at scale are among the most sought-after technical professionals in the industry today.

Through the HPC Pre-Apprenticeship Program launched by STEM Boomerang NM, students and early-career professionals gain exposure to:

  • High-performance computing fundamentals
  • Parallel computing and cluster environments
  • Real-world AI and simulation workflows
  • Industry-aligned technical skills

This structured, paid program bridges academic learning with hands-on industry relevance — creating pathways into high-impact technology careers within New Mexico.

Hoonify’s Role: Industry Expertise in Action

As an Albuquerque-based HPC software company, Hoonify’s role in this partnership goes beyond a name on a list. We have contributed subject matter expertise to help ensure the curriculum reflects what modern HPC environments actually look like — the infrastructure, workflows, and real-world challenges being solved in production today.

Our team has provided guidance on:

  • Modern HPC architectures and operational workflows
  • Practical cluster management and job scheduling concepts
  • AI and simulation workloads in production environments
  • The evolving intersection of DevOps, automation, and scalable compute

As a company focused on simplifying and operationalizing HPC environments through our TurbOS® platform, we understand how critical practical, deployable knowledge is in today’s computing landscape.

The goal has been to help produce graduates who are ready to contribute from day one — not just theoretically familiar with the concepts, but grounded in how HPC systems are actually deployed and used. This kind of private-sector engagement accelerates workforce development from good intentions into measurable outcomes.

Building Advanced Computing Talent Locally

New Mexico’s technical depth is a genuine competitive advantage. The opportunity now is to expand private-sector technology growth alongside that foundation — strengthening the connection between research excellence and sustainable industry careers.

A strong local HPC workforce creates:

  • More opportunities for students and career changers
  • Stronger collaboration between academia and industry
  • Greater retention of technical talent within the state
  • A more resilient regional innovation ecosystem

From startups to established enterprises, from research institutions to defense contractors, advanced computing capability strengthens the entire state.

A Long-Term Commitment to Community

Our partnership with STEM Boomerang NM reflects a broader commitment: building in New Mexico, investing in local talent, and strengthening the technology ecosystem from within.

Sustainable growth in advanced computing requires more than products. It requires people, education, collaboration, and shared responsibility.

New Mexico’s advanced computing future will be built by partnership between educators, industry leaders, and community stakeholders. We are proud to have contributed our expertise to date — and we welcome others who want to help expand HPC opportunity across the state.
